Celebrating the Accomplishments of
our 2016-17 AmeriCorps VIP Fellows

Americorps video player

Our AmeriCorps Volunteer Infrastructure Project (VIP) cohort of 2016-2017 had a fantastic year getting things done for America! We are so thankful to the 17 members who served at various nonprofits throughout the county to strengthen volunteer capacity and infrastructure. Watch the video above that celebrates all of their impactful accomplishments. This year’s cohort is in for an exciting service term as well! They reported for service on September 5 and have already served on 9/11 Remembrance Day in a project for Support the Enlisted Project.

While AmeriCorps VIP Fellows are placed at partner sites all across San Diego, we are thrilled to welcome AmeriCorps VIP Leads Gabby Herencia and Tim Hart to the team at JFS. Gabby is in her second year of service to AmeriCorps and will be helping to increase volunteer capacity and engagement in our nutrition programs. Tim comes to us from the for-profit finance world and will be helping us recruit and retain volunteers in our transportation programs. Welcome Tim and Gabby!

Powegian of the Year Nominee

Pat Kramer has been a valued JFS volunteer since 2007. She has contributed more than 4,500 service hours to our On the Go Rides & Smiles program, lending her skills as volunteer driver for older adults who no longer drive themselves. To date, Pat has given over 4,600 rides.Wow!

A retired Painted Rock Elementary School teacher, Pat has been a Poway Resident for 46 years. Her parents were very giving people, and Pat was inspired to at a young age to follow their lead in helping others.

Pat and her husband Chuck own 5 classic vehicles—all Chevrolets, 1929-1967. Riders get a kick out of being picked up in one of the vintage vehicles. Pat loves driving and feels for seniors who are no longer able to get behind the wheel. She shows her care and compassion for those she transports in ways that go beyond the norm. Pat always prefers to do round trip rides vs. one-way, so she can create a personal and consistent experience for the rider.

This year, Pat will celebrate 10 years of service with Rides & Smiles! Thank you Pat for your passion and devotion to the program. You are a shining example of why we say Volunteers are the heart of JFS!
