Tikkun Olam in Action: A Community Opportunity to Co-Sponsor Refugees

Date:
Wednesday, January 5, 2022
Time:
6:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Location:
Zoom Online Meeting

With the number of refugees around the world increasing exponentially, Jewish Family Service, one of the primary refugee resettlement agencies in San Diego anticipates resettling over 500 individuals in the coming year. Based on our guiding values of tikkun olam (repairing the world) and hachnasat orchim (welcoming others), JFS is partnering with HIAS to pilot a new Co-Sponsorship Program to build a community of support for newly arrived refugee families. To help us realize this goal, we invite congregations, social action committees, havurot, and passionate community members to form volunteer groups to partner with us in welcoming the stranger.

With the support of JFS professionals, Co-Sponsorship Groups will commit to:

  • Providing critical social-emotional and financial support
  • Ensuring a smooth integration process into our community
  • Establishing a strong pathway to self-sufficiency
